In 2017, I was an underclassman at Purdue University, where I heard about the global game jam, a rapid prototyping event held to promote game development. I formed a team with three other attendees and we sought out to create a game where players use magnetic waves to control their character through a sidescrolling level filled with spikes and lasers.
I had only just begun my curriculum in computer science, and so I made myself useful by making character animations for lack of confidence in programming. However, through this event, I made connections That would empower me to grow as an amateur game developer.
